If you want to know what's happening in the future, look to the past. The word prophecy comes from the Greek "propheteia", which translates as foretelling, or revealing what is to come. Van Rensburg (1854-1932) was an Afrikaner Boer farmer who experienced hundreds of visions of impending disasters and events before they happened. His predictions were largely ignored until after their occurrence, when he gained fame throughout South Africa and other parts of Europe for his clairvoyant abilities. He prophesied the Boer's defeat after the war of 1899, which was also ignored until it came to pass. Van Rensburg was born in the village of Paardeberg, in the Cape Colony (now Western Cape Province) on January 3, 1854. He was one of five children. He went to school for only six years before dropping out due to his family's poverty. At this time he had already begun experiencing visions and dreams that foretold disasters and other events. Van Rensburg began devoting his time to finding these visions in their various forms, which generally came in the form of dreams or flashes of insight into what would come next. The first of these was of a horrifying event which foretold the outbreak of the First Anglo-Boer War which took place between 1880 and 1881. This vision of major destruction caused him to move his family into the relative safety of Pretoria, but they were forced to move back by British troops after the marriage of their oldest daughter. Several years later, Van Rensburg had another vision of an impending disaster. He saw large plumes rising above many towns, indicating massive destruction. His wife urged him to go to church and pray for one week so that he could see if this vision would come true. At the end of the week Van Rensburg went out to cut wood on his farm, and experienced yet another vision. This time, instead of destruction, he saw trees with flowers growing on them. The following day his wife awoke him to tell him they had received a letter from the Netherlands confirming that their home was destroyed and no one survived. He began experiencing predictions as this vision came true, but his family still refused to accept his visions as true. It was not until after the disasters he predicted had come to pass that Van Rensburg was taken seriously as a prophet. In the years before and after these disasters, he experienced many other visions and dreams which foretold future events: the death of his wife's first cousin; the assassination of Louis Botha; Boer defeat in the Anglo-Boer War; and several others. His wife, who knew it could be dangerous to let her husband read what he wrote or speak about his visions, kept them hidden from the world. Van Rensburg was taken ill in 1901 with tuberculosis and died in 1932 in Wapadsberg. The date of his death was just one month before South Africa finally became a republic in 1991, seventy years after the Boer War's end. On his gravestone is inscribed: "Sieger van Rensburg." (Dutch for "Victor of Rensburg.")"[ARTICLE END] On September 24th 2012 Van Rensburg’s daughter, Mrs. cfa1e77820
