De Dana Dan is a Filipino romantic comedy film produced by Star Cinema. It stars John Lloyd Cruz and Kim Chiu in the lead roles. The film is directed by Cathy Garcia Molina and was released on May 26, 2014, received positive reviews and became one of the highest grossing Filipino films of 2014, grossing over PHP90 million in its three-month run. The movie is about two very different girls who meet when one suffers from brain damage due to an accident; they end up discovering that their opinions of love might not be as different as they thought. The movie was nominated in the 10th PMPC Star Awards for Movies for "Best Actor", "Best Actress" and "Best Screenplay", while the film itself was nominated in the 41st PMPC Star Awards for Movies for "Best Picture". The film was also an official entry to the 40th Metro Manila Film Festival. The movie became part of Viva's Anniversary offering during its 6th year. The special screening happened on August 31, 2014 featuring an interview with JC De Vera who is part of the cast. Dan (John Lloyd Cruz) is a happy-go-lucky guy who believes that love comes naturally, while Gio (Kim Chiu) believes that it's something you have to work at. The two meet when Gio, a volunteer at a rehabilitation center, suffers a traumatic accident. She falls from a rooftop and hits her head, which results in her forgetting everything she's learned from personal experience. So when Gio wakes up from the coma she’s been in for months after emergency surgery, she knows nothing about love. In fact, she thinks it is something you have to discover through research and hard work. The two start living together in Dan's house to take care of Gio's nephews—her sister has gone abroad to work and hasn't sent any money. They don't know the first thing about one another, but they end up more alike than they thought. Gio becomes a fairy godmother of sorts to Dan, showing him how to treat women better and encouraging him to think about love more seriously. Meanwhile, he helps her discover that she has a natural gift for cooking and that she too can experience love effortlessly someday if she takes that chance when it comes. It is revealed in Gio's flashback that she learned cooking when she was in college. Her grandmother had come back home after her grandfather got cancer and died, leaving her grandmother heartbroken. They decided to open their own restaurant in Spain, called La Nostra Familia (Our Family). The family had only one rule, that all diners should be treated well. The restaurant was successful and the years later Gio's parents came back for a visit, bringing one of their daughters to live with them. Gio went to the airport to see her family but she couldn’t recognize any of them. When she returned home six months later, she discovered that her sister died during childbirth. While Dan tries to come up with ways to keep his house clean, Gio learns how to do laundry by hanging it on the line outside, instead of drying it in the washing machine inside.
